'The Forger' is an upcoming light-drama film about art forgery set to be released to theaters later in 2012. It stars Josh Hutcherson, Hayden Panettiere, Lauren Bacall, and Alfred Molina.
Also known as 'Carmel by the Sea'
The Forger, previously titled Carmel by the Sea, marks Lawrence Roeck's debut as a feature film director. The film's 24-day shooting schedule finished on location in Carmel, California in February 2009, and included Carmel locals in several key scenes. Experience Media Studios acquired the unfinished film in early 2010, and completed it by February 2011. The movie will be out in theaters in June 2012 due to a decision to delay the movie until after major films such as The Hunger Games (which Josh Hutcherson is also the star of) have premiered. Following a title change to The Forger, the movie will be released on DVD on July 3, 2012.
Joshua Mason (Josh Hutcherson) is a troubled 15-year-old who is homeless in Carmel, California. Being an incredible art prodigy, Joshua enters the world of art forgery. While there he meets a retired artist named Annamarie Sterling (Lauren Bacall) who recalls earlier Carmel artists and their artistic integrity and takes an interest in Joshua. As the story develops, Joshua meets a girl (Hayden Panettiere), makes friends and gets drawn into being a forger.
